The GlobaLog® system will provide you with a minute-by-minute account of your exposure to cosmic radiation along any given flight route on any given day. It is designed to help individual crewmembers manage their risk of overexposure to cosmic radiation.

Pilots and Cabin attendants work more hours than ever before, and they are consequently receiving greater annual doses of radiation than ever before. These doses are 3-6 times greater than those received by radiation workers in the nuclear industry. Because of this and the inaccuracy of existing tools for measuring exposure, more and more crewmembers may be receiving a larger than recommended dose of cosmic radiation. That is why we developed our system GlobaLog® - the world's most accurate radiation account.

Cosmic radiation is a form of cosmic weather. And just like weather here on earth, it is extremely variable. Radiation levels vary from day to day by as much as 100%. Existing tools based on monthly average readings are therefore imprecise measures of an individual's in-flight exposure to cosmic radiation - especially during solar storms.

What does the EU legislation say?

Article 42, EU Council Directive 96/29/EURATOM

Each Member State shall make arrangements for parties operating aircraft to take account of exposure to cosmic radiation of air crew who are liable to be subject to exposure to more than1 mSv per year. The parties shall take appropriate measures, in particular:

  • To assess the exposure of the crew concerned.
  • To take into account the assessed exposure when organizing working schedules with a view to reducing the doses of highly exposed aircrew.
  • To inform the workers concerned of the health risks their work involves.

Considerable fuel saving opportunities

Every pilot knows that for a given combination of aircraft weight and temperature there is a certain flight level at which he covers the greatest distance per unit of fuel (the Optimum Cruising Level). But if a pilot has reason to believe that a lower altitude will be more safe for his passengers and crew, he will request air traffic control to give him such lower altitude - well knowing this will be more expensive for his company.
